This blog shares the journals of my great-grandfather Nelson Hjalmar Lindgren (b. 14 Oct 1884 Sweden d. 3 Mar 1976 E. Prov, RI). These writings give a window into a fascinating man and give the story of a remarkable life of a first generation Swedish-American. The daily entries of Nil's journals from 50 years ago will give our family a greater connection to our past.

Slept fine up at 5.30. Squeezed oranges and had coffee. Started at 6.50.
Bought fireworks and pecans and peaches. Took turns driving. Stopped at Hornes for a cup of coffee.
Rolled along and at about 4.00 it clouded up and at 4.50, while Tillie was driving it really came down, with thunder and lightning steadily. It rained so hard we couldn’t see the road. Most cars pulled in beside the road and Tillie did for about ten min, but then drove right along. Tough driving. She drove through Wilmington, N.C. and just north of the town we got a motel for 5.00. They also had a restaurant and we had pork chops, F.F., green beans, spinach greens, salad, rolls and coffee. Still raining at 8.00 when we went to bed. I’ve never seen it rain so hard. It was the Live Oak Motel.
